Bridgetown, Barbados

The island of Barbados boasts mile after mile of pristine beaches. The rugged and hill hewn eastern side brushes up against the Atlantic Ocean.  The ship docks on the western and leeward side in the capital, Bridgetown. Excursions can take you to the pristinely restored 17th-century Sunbury Plantation House or you may want to soak in the breathtaking views from Gun Hill Signal Station. If you are more adventurous enjoy more time at sea in an Atlantis submersible or the Caribbean vibe on a catamaran.  Barbados is also well known for its Mount Gay rum and delectable seafood.

Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago

This is a great port to explore with a shore excursion.  Lush gardens, 20th Century mansions or The Savannah, a vast 260-acre park and its orchid house are worth taking in.  The National Museum and Art Gallery is a popular stop to immerse yourself in history and art. The seafood, roti or callaloo are must try foods while in Barbados.

Cruising the Amazon

This is where the excitement begins as we begin to head up the Amazon River towards Manaus.  Spend time out on deck or in the Observation Lounge enjoying the increasing remoteness of this beautiful destination.

Santarem, Brazil

Santarem is one of the Amazon's most important trading centers, and is rich in legend and nature. A must see is the “Wedding of the Waters” which is the point where the Tapajos and the Amazon waters meet.  The lakes and forests of this area are abound with numerous species of birds, particularly the white egret.

Boca da Valeria

Step into another world in Boca de Valeria.  High up on a hill with commanding views of the Amazon, Boca Da Valeria is an Indian village located between Parintins and Santarem. Take a leisurely stroll through the village where you will see daily life unfold.  Here you will really start to see the rich equatorial flora whether you go ashore or enjoy the quiet of the ship.  Note that due to the under-developed nature of this destination, organized tours are not available.  This is about observing and experiencing a world very different to yours.

Manaus, Brazil

Known as the “Paris of the Jungle,” Manaus is the capital of Brazil’s state of Amazonas. The city was carved from the dense jungle by rubber barons in the 19th century.  Whether you take an excursion up a nearby tributary to see abundant wildlife or perhaps visit the world famous Renaissance-style Opera House or maybe do a trek in the jungle, there are many options for you to explore.

Parintins, Brazil

Parintins on Tupinambarana Island is another small village on the Amazon.  It is found in the largest river archipelago of the mid-Amazon. The locals share their culture and reenact the annual “Boi Bumba” festival that takes place in June every year.  A vibrant festival atmosphere is recreated with loud music, rhythmic dancing and brilliant costumes as the actors perform their parts with joy, pride and lots of feathers.

Alter Do Chao, Brazil

Alter Do Chao, named after the flat-topped hill that provides a natural backdrop is a lesser-developed destination offering an authenticity that sometimes lacks in more heavily travelled destinations. Located on the Rio Tapajos, you will see quaint cottages along the white-sand beaches lined with leafy palm trees. Local artists create beautiful handicrafts, the vegetation is lush and full and the turquoise lagoon offers beautiful clear waters. Organized tours are not available at this stop.

St. George's, Grenada

St. George's is a quaint a pretty town to explore on your own or on a guided tour.  Known as the “Spice Island” you can visit a spice farm and learn about all the local spices grown and produced on the island.  There are many options for touring both on land or at sea with as much or as little adventure as you want.  This really is a beautiful island worth visiting.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

Packed with historical landmarks, this is the second-oldest European settlement in the Americas.  Boasting pristine beaches and exceptional cuisine this is a highlight port of call.  Promenade through Old San Juan, observing endless landmarks the city is known for.  Linger in colorful plazas, where quaint shops and tempting eateries beckon. Whether you stay in town or venture out into the wilderness of the island on a shore excursion there is something for everyone.
